In order to forget the past, we need a hope for the future. God's part in the process is that He takes away the pain and sting of our past, not by removing the past but by displacing and replacing it - giving us beauty for ashes, and a garment of praise for a spirit of heaviness. Our part is to receive and to 'put on' all that He gives us in order to walk in His will.
